Going Green

SUSTAINABILITY AT WMS

“Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives.” – Thomas Berry

This quote supports a key element of Montessori education and for Woodinville Montessori School.  Our goal at WMS is to teach the sciences and help children understand the importance of how living and non-living things interact to sustain our planet.  After achieving Level 1 status with the King County Green Schools we want to continue our momentum towards greater sustainability.

Each month the school will have a curriculum activity or theme to support continued environmental awareness.  During October and November the classrooms made posters showing, “garbage, recycling, and compost”.  Students also made sustainability haiku poetry to be displayed at both campuses.  In December we had an all school work party with King County at Chinook Bend along the Snoqualmie River restoring a salmon habitat.  Look for monthly updates in the Grapevine for Sustainability happening here at WMS!
