“I like the classes and options we have in them. I like the independence at this school.”
—K.G., class of ‘21
The Puget Sound area boasts many fine public and independent schools. So what could a small, new Secondary program offer your high school or middle school student?
Quality, accredited Montessori. Woodinville Montessori School has worked to provide high-quality, authentic Montessori education for younger students since 1983. When our parents wanted a full Montessori education for their children, we added high school, and in June 2017 our first senior class will graduate. Full accreditation for children 18 months to 18 years old, through the American Montessori Society and the Northwest Association of Independent Schools, attest to our high standards of excellence.
Rich academics plus real-life awareness and skills. At WMHS & MS our highly-qualified teachers help your child build the foundation for life’s next steps, whether that means taking the SAT, enrolling in cooking school or starting a business. Our full, and fully-balanced curriculum meets, and in most cases, exceeds, Washington state standards. We offer college prep academics, including both honors and Advanced Placement options, service learning, arts, technology, orienteering, electives and clubs. But as a Montessori school we add: personalized learning, low student-to-teacher ratio, community development, leadership, environmental and global awareness, entrepreneurship and more. Students take responsibility for their own learning; they learn to think and to solve problems.
A close-knit community knows and supports your child. In this diverse, collaborative and supportive environment, your teenager will work closely with, and be guided by, his or her teachers. Knowing your child, our college counselor can offer highly personalized advice on what colleges might be a good fit. The adults in our wider school community support our high school students through job shadowing or mentoring programs.
At a time when schools can be too big and impersonal, and academic competition causes record levels of anxiety among teens, WMHS & MS offers all the academics in a quiet, close-knit, non-competitive environment solely designed to help students grow and learn and love it.
